    • Catastrophic Engine Failure in 2013-2014 Equinoxes

Do not buy this car if it is the 4 cylinder 2.4l engine. They all have catastrophic engine failure between 90-120k miles. The timing chain will go out and the pcv valve gets gunked up leading to total engine failure. This is a recall but the recall never happened. We are in a financially devastated place and were sold a car that the dealer and bank knew would lead to engine failure while still paying it off. Do not believe the 5 star reviews. This will sink you financially for awhile.

If you're looking into buying any general motors vehicle with the 2.4L ecotec, do your due diligence before buying and you'll find a plethora of defects with this engine from faulty pcv systems that clog up in the cold and force a blow out of your rear main seal while you're driving and without warning, excessive oil consumption, to cheap pins in the timing chain assemly that like to come loose while you're driving, all of which can and will cause catastrophic engine failure. Simply googling the words "2.4L ecotech" well bring up a ton of results related to current and pending class actions against general motors over this engines poor design and GMs unwillingness to correct any of the problems with it.
